3x5 Kelsey Excelsior & Kit

Alan's
father bought this
press from Kelsey Company sometime around
1930 or so. It lacks only a set of
rollers and some tlc to put it back into
service.
The complete kit includes 4 2/3-size Kelsey
"Excelsior" layout type cases as well as one
12" x 12" "Hobby" model type case. There are
some old - but likely still good - tubes of
Kelsey ink, a composing stick, an ink brayer
and various other odds & ends.
This press is in "like new" condition.
The rollers hooks are even still
perfectly straight!
You can put a set
of rollers onto this press, slap in
the chase and bed, drop the ink disk
into its mount, add some ink and a
form
and begin printing! |
There is also literature from Kelsey Co,
including a letter from Gene Mosher, dated
"????"
Presses like these are listed on eBay for
$200-700. Some folks just ask a lot and don't
really get what they think they will, so $400 is
a very realistic price for this kit. It
includes, the press, some type, some ink and a
composing stick -pretty near a complete kit for
printing. Even instructions on how to do it!
Alan is willing to entertain any serious offers.
It would be best if you could drive to Ponte
Vedra to pick it up in person. Shipping is not
offered.
Ponte Vedra is on the East Coast of Florida,
about 20 miles southeast of Jacksonville.
