"Barn Find" Paul Cichetti's stored Monotype Casters in Frenchtown, NJ click on any photo to see larger image Paul Cicchetti was my friend. He had worked as a union pressman at the old New York Times and began to collect typesetting and printing equipment during the last years of his work there. He's hoped to set up a shop for printing books in his retirement, but that was not to be. He died before he got to it... He collected and stored a lot of equipment in one of the other old barns on the farm where my shop operated since 1986, but he passed away a few years ago and never got to use it. It sat there, in the barn - wrapped in plastic and strapped to pallets until this past weekend when all of his stuff was sold at auction to pay back rent. A lot of his stuff sold at the auction, but not these 4+ Monotype Casters. They are currently available. Note: These photos are large and may take some time to display. But each is linked to a larger version of itself, so be patient and see all the detail in each photo. update: It seems that these all may soon be rescued by ATF - The American Typecasting Fellowship - the last bastion of Thompson and Monotype casters in the country, perhaps in the world.
