This
unique sign press was also picked up
at auction in Indiana.
Soon it will join our other sign
presses here.
A press like this would have been used
to print small signs - or perhaps
"point of sale" information cards at a
retail store - these were often found
in department stores before they were
replaced with computers and laser or
ink-jet printers. But they can also be
used as a flat-bed or proof press for
doing letterpress printing using old
hand-type and/or photo-engravingts.
What I found most interesting about
this press is the side-mounted frisket
- designed to hold a sheet in register
for production or multi-color work.
Very interestesting - looks like the
old frisket as used on a horiztonal
platen press in the past.
This
press is mounted on a strong, but not
great for moving base. I think it might
make sense to remove it from the base
and lay the bed down low with the base
sitting above.
